Updates Week of April 21, 2014

I have to begin this week with saying how proud I am of the effort the students have put forth through their testing!  No matter what their scores are, parents, students and the school couldn't have asked for  more focus and effort on their part!  You should be very proud of your child!!

We have now completed all the FCAT tests.  However, we will begin taking other final end of the year assessments through the month of May.  There are LOTS of things going on the month of May.  I will post all important reminders on the classroom home learning board to be copied into planners, on this site, as well as the grade portal calendar. Please check the planner daily and ask your child what is coming up at school.

Reading
This year we have focused on the standards for reading in connection with multiple choice style test questions.  This last quarter we will focus on using these standards and answering question in a short and long written answer response.  We will do this using the Social Studies books as well as the Reading textbook.

Writing
Students finished publishing their books this week.  I mailed them off  to the publisher and we should get them back within the next few weeks.  Hopefully you saw the letter your child brought home about the project.

Dates to remember:
May 2..............................FCAT Picnic
May 9..............................Camp Echokotee Field trip permission slip and money due by noon
May 14............................Field Day
May 16............................Camp Echokotee Field Trip

Until next time,

Here we go!! This week students will focus on the FCAT tests in Reading and Science.  I know they will do great!! Each session lasts 70 minutes so we will continue to work the rest of the day.  However, I will not introduce anything new or assign homework.  Just remember a good nights rest and a good breakfast are very important for students to be able to focus and do their best.
