I'm so glad to be able to begin posting again. Somehow I was unable to sign on to my account and after much work....here we are back on board!! Yay!! So, as I stated before, this will be a weekly update of what we are covering and what will be coming up in science class.
Classroom Updates
Progress reports went home a week ago. I have not received many back. If you have not seen it please ask your student about their progress report. Also, Friday Folders with conduct grades are still being sent home weekly. Many folders were not returned this week and many that are being returned are not signed. Please look for and ask about your students Friday Conduct folder as many students have comments about their study behaviors at school that need correcting.
Science Content Updates
So, we have covered our standards so far for the nature of science, physical science, and earth and space science. We have just begun studying life science. We have covered the parts and functions of plants and environmental influences on plants. Students germinated a cucumber seed in class and watched it grow into a seedling. You should have seen them bring it home this past Friday. I told them to put it in a sunny warm window for a few weeks until it gets warmer outside. They need to water it when it is dry. Then, they can plant it outside in a sunny spot. Keep it watered and hopefully cucumbers will grow. I can't wait to hear about how their little seedlings are doing :)
We have now moved onto studying the human body. Students have to be able to identify and describe the function of the following organs: skin, brain, heart, lungs, stomach,
liver, intestines, pancreas, muscles and skeleton, reproductive
organs, kidneys, bladder, and sensory organs. I sent home a study guide last week. This was their homework for the week. They need to study the functions of the organs. They can make flash cards out of the study guide and have someone call out the information to them and quiz them. They will be tested in class and on their state test in May. So they need to keep studying and reviewing this information.
